Types of discrimination:
Discrimination against a person's intelligence level
- Blonde people are dumb
- All athletes have low IQ
Discrimination against sexual orientation
- Gays and lesbians are not acceptable in today's society
- Bisexuals are nuts
- Homosexuals are not accepted for who they are
- Not behaving in a forthright manner is like breaking the law
Discrimination against family background:
- Being a kid that is half boy, half girl is 'wrong'
- Not having respect for other people's family because they are of a lower status
- Having a different family background is incorrect
Discrimination against disabled:
- Handicap people are just a waste of space
- People with down syndrome are 'retarded'
- Making fun of people's disabilities
However in my opinion, racial discrimination is the worst and inhumane. People judge others simply by their skin colour. Racism is the reason why there are so many racial riots happening in modern day society. Some think that whites are superior and blacks are inferior just due to the fact that negro worked as slaves, had little education and low status in society in the past. We are all human beings and we live on one Earth, hence we are all equals. Black people have also started to show that they have the brains and the capabilities to be successful. let me name you a few examples: Barack Obama is the first African-American to ever become the president of the United States of America, Oprah Winfrey is also another African-American to become a famous talk show host and she even has her own show called 'OPRAH', there are also many artist who have produced music that hit number one on the billboard music charts such as Bruno Mars, Iyaz, Nelly and many others. Many track and field athletes also have dark skin but that does not stop them from winning an olympic medal. Therefore, if people weren't so racist, thought that they were a rank above others, there would not be as many racial riots as there are today.
God created everyone as equals. The advancement of technology had put an edge on humanity. people start comparing with one another with an invisible ruler in their heart. That's where discrimination comes in. But as i had said in my previous comment, only God has the right to judge anyone.mere humans don't. "Thou Shalt Not Judge".
ReplyDeleteMaybe to you, racial discrimination is the worst out of the lot. But thank God we are living in Singapore & the problem isn't too big.
As for me, i think homosexuality discriminiation are the worst in Singapore as our beautiful country is after all, a bit more traditional.
Being in the creative line,
i got to know many lesbians & gays. & trust me when i say life for them isn't easy in Singapore.
Be it family-wise, job-wise or even just along the streets, homosexuals are given the shorter end of the rod. look at the penal code. there's even a section against gay sex.(377a)
i for one think that whatever private affairs the gays have behind closed doors, is their own private affairs & no one should interfer. unless of course, it's not a mutual agreement, then yes, by all means, call in the police & handle it like a normal heterosexual sexual harrassment case.But by implementing that law, it's as good as telling the gays straight off that they are being discriminated by their sexual orientation. Which, is something most of them can't help themselves.
I have a good gay friend who was sacked simply because he's gay. & he had spent years of hardwork to get to where he was at that point of time.unfair not?
i will end this comment by giving you an advice i often tell people who are homophobic,
"hetrosexual is not normal, it's just common. just be true to your own heart.be it homosexual or hetrosexual. homosapien is still our common name".
